Enter the Realm of Rhododendrons

The woodlands are also home to Harewood’s impressive collection of rhododendrons.

Over 100 different rhododendrons can be found growing along the margins of the lake, providing colour from April right the way through to early July.

In autumn, the Lakeside transforms once again. The colours of the changing leaves are reflected in the tranquil waters, creating a truly stunning spectacle.

Woodland trails lead down to the dam and across the bridge perched over the cascade. With views stretching across the Lake and down into the Himalayan Garden, this is a perfect place to stop and take in the beauty of the changing seasons.

A Sanctuary for Creatures Great and Small

The Lake, designed by the one and only Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown in the 1770s, spans 32 acres of water, providing a vital home for wildlife. Otters, foxes, badgers, and a wide range of birds can often be spotted here including kingfishers, egrets, nuthatches and woodpeckers.

The historic trees also house colonies of bats, all part of Harewood’s diverse and thriving ecosystem.
