The design of this vase (one of a pair) is typical of the neo-Classical ornamental vases being produced by Sèvres in the late 18th century, with a solid ground colour as well as neo-Classical gilt-bronze mounts.
This particular vase is made of hard-paste porcelain, with an overglaze ‘beau-bleu’ (dark blue) ground and gilt-bronze mounts in the shape of gryphons.
